Pride Ortho is a community of proactive lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) individuals and their allies with a mission to provide mentorship, networking in a safe space, and a sense of belonging for members of our orthopaedic community. We focus on education and research and promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity to improve quality of care for LGBTQ+ orthopaedic patients. We aim to increase diversity and inclusivity of the orthopaedic LGBTQ+ community and promote professional development of LGBTQ+ people of all backgrounds to succeed throughout all stages of their career.
Pride Ortho was officially incorporated in New York in December 2021, but you could trace our very beginnings to a virtual happy hour for LGBTQ+ orthopaedic surgeons organized by our first president, Dr. Qusai Hammouri, in Summer 2020. For many of us, this was the first time we had met or spoken with other LGBTQ+ orthopods, and it was certainly the first event we felt was specifically for us. From these early connections, we realized the importance of community and how important it would be to form a group to represent LGBTQ+ orthopaedic surgeons and increase our visibility to those that might be hesitant to join the field. We are open to all orthopaedic surgeons (gay, straight, trans or cis) who are committed to increasing the representation of the LGBTQ+ community within the field of orthopaedics. We hope you will join us!
